Direct Filing
Companies and inventors can decide to file an application directly in each country or in combination with using the Patent Cooperation Treaty. When extending the protection in countries that are not party to a convention, such as Argentina, Taiwan or Venezuela, filing directly is the only option.
This protection method is also most often used if you wish to speed up the granting process, or when filing in a small number of countries, due to the lower initial costs. -
PCT National Phase Entry
The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) allows applicants to obtain protection in multiple jurisdictions using a simplified process, which is very useful in today’s globalized world. With a single patent application, an invention can be protected in all member states.
