  • The Frontex cultural mediation contract is one of the most important interpreting contracts in the industry in terms of budgetary allocation, scope of languages provided and territorial coverage of the service.
  • At least 112 cultural mediators are expected to be deployed simultaneously.

September 23rd, 2022 – SeproTec Multilingual Solutions, a Multilingual Service Provider ranked among the Top 30 Language Service Companies in the world, has been awarded one of the most important interpreting contracts in the industry, a €41.5 million contract for the provision of interpreting and cultural mediation services for Frontex’s operational activities over the next four years.

Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, which supports EU Member States in the management of the EU’s external borders and fighting cross-border crime, recently announced the winners of Lot 1 of an interpreting and cultural mediation contract, which has been awarded to the SeproTec Multilingual Solutions/CIES Onlus consortium.

According to company CEO Juan Julián Leon, “this contract marks an important milestone in the company’s growth plan and reinforces SeproTec’s Interpreting Division’s efforts towards solidifying its leading position in the international provision of interpreting and cultural mediation services.  Intercultural mediation services, and especially these big contracts, are challenging to manage in terms of logistics due to the complexity of shifts, response timings, the number of locations and the language combinations required. The award of this contract proves the quality of the service that our interpreting team keeps providing.”

Lot 1 of this contract includes cultural mediation and support operations for Frontex activities within the territory of the EU as well as the coverage of its operations in other countries outside Europe. The services will mainly be provided on-site at the European Union member states’ external borders in Italy, Greece, Albania, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Serbia, Spain, Slovakia, Lithuania and Croatia, and there will also be some telephone interpreting services.

The services, which will start by the end of August, cover a wide range of language combinations, such as Albanian, Amharic, Arabic (North African, Maghreb, Western and Tunisian), Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bambara, Bengali, Bosnian, Chinese, Croatian, Dari, Farsi, French, Georgian, Hausa, Hindi,  Kurdish (Sorani and Kurmanji), Lingala, Montenegrin, Nepalese, Fula, Pashto, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Sinhala, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tamil, Tigrinya, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, Vietnamese, Wolof and Yoruba.
