Boosting Translation Efficiency for a Global Manufacturing Leader
A global leader in machine tools, laser technology, and electronics aimed to reduce translation turnaround times and costs while maintaining quality.
Seprotec responded by implementing tailored machine translation engines and a post-editing workflow, achieving significant savings and strong quality results that support further expansion.
-
Objective
The client was looking to cut translation turnaround times and reduce translation costs while maintaining the high quality standards required for technical and multilingual content.
-
Challenge
The company needed to improve translation efficiency and reduce costs without compromising quality, accuracy or consistency across large volumes of technical documentation and multilingual communications.
-
Implementation
Seprotec developed a tailored machine translation solution for the client’s technical documentation department.
Six MT engines were trained and optimized for German to English, Chinese, Polish, French, Italian and Spanish through Language Quality Assessment (LQA).
Using KantanMT integrated with Across, machine translation output and post-edited content were analyzed to improve engine performance.
A dedicated post-editing program and a human-in-the-loop workflow combining machine translation, post-editing and quality assurance reviews were then implemented. -
Result
The MTPE workflow reduced the price per word and lowered overall translation costs for the technical documentation department.
Quality performance was equally strong, with 80% of German-to-English translations achieving an edit distance of below 0.25, indicating that only light editing was required.
The success of the solution also generated interest in extending the approach to additional departments within the organisation.
